MHTI, as a non-profit and philanthropic initiative, has been established with a vision to contribute towards improving access to quality education and skill based training, enhancing opportunities of employability and entrepreneurship of the youth population, improving living standards, reducing poverty and achieving equality and regional balances in Bangladesh.
Syed Monjurul Islam
(Ex. Secretary, Government of Bangladesh)
Bangladesh, with a large population of 160 million has the median age of 26. Thus Bangladesh is now enjoying the demographic dividend. There are approximately two million new entrants in Bangladesh workforce annually, out of which only 5% receive training before entering into the labor market. For moving the economic growth to a higher trajectory, Bangladesh needs to convert its large working age population into productive human resources through enhancing their skill level. Skill sets are critical for productivity, industrial growth, export diversification and producing high value products and services.
MHTI envisaged to complement the government’s initiatives to enhance the capacities of the new entrants through receiving training before going to the job market. MHTI believes that skill-based education and training will enable the country to transform its population into productive human resources. This transformation is essential for country’s faster growth, competitiveness and social stability. It is strongly felt that businesses particularly the industry and service sectors will require a huge number of skilled workers and craftsmen in order to sustain economic growth as well as drastically reduce the poverty.
MHTI, located in a remote village where there are very high numbers of unemployed youths and very high drop-outs, is in an optimum position to help and promote diverse groups capable people who otherwise face different realities, obstacles, lack of opportunities and lack of economic – social advancement. MHTI will focus on identifying and empowering the excluded and vulnerable members of the community.
As the founder of MHTI, I could only do so little in initiating the philanthropic endeavours of MHTI. It is my sincere hope that people from different walks of life shall all contribute to the philanthropic endeavours of MHTI in their own way and materialize the vision with which MHTI has been established.
